Our idiot landlord
Jul. 16th, 2005 10:48 pmOkay, so you all saw the ceiling being patched, right? Well here's the background:
- Back in September, a chunk of the ceiling fell after the had been a leak for a number of months, which I had reported to him on multiple occassions
- During the first two weeks of October, he tore a big hole in the ceiling above the shower in order to access the pipe above and replace it so it would stop leaking. Hooray, no more leaks.
- From this point on, he never really made an effort to patch the hole he put in the ceiling.
- About a week and a half ago, I get a call from him telling me that he should really fix the ceiling, and also offering me money to move out for Sept 1 so he can rent to students for more money. I was like "no, I'm trying to move out but I can't plan to move out for Sept 1, when I want to buy a house which may not close in time"
- After I get the call, Jess talks to the neighbours who had property standards come by, inspect their apartment, and send a letter to my landlord.
- I get notice that he's coming to do repairs last week.
- The next day, according to another neighbour, he came in, looked at it, and left
- Yesterday, the hole was patched as per the picture
- Today, he came by around 6:30 to put another layer of plaster on it. He continued to try to convince me to move out for September first, doubling his offer of cash, and telling me that I could just move two doors down. I was like "no, I don't want to move for two months and then move again". Then he mentions that I had property standards come in and take a look. I was like "no, I haven't had anyone inspect this". This is true.
- He's also taking out chunks of the paint/plaster on the walls in the bathroom, as if he's planning on repainting the whole thing. That's great, but you know, would be better if he let us know so that we could have taken more stuff out of the bathroom.
So anyways, over dinner, we realized that most likely, he's mistaken our apartment for the one next door, and is furiously trying to finish the repairs before the deadline given by property standards to repair the other apartment. Of course, this means that the apartment that has the deadline isn't being touched and he will be screwed. This is hilarious to us.
