In my telecom newsletter, I got the following as part of a summary of BCE (Bell Canada Enterprises) annual business review conference held on Wednesday:
  • Former Telus exec George Cope, who became Bell's President and COO in January, stressed a policy of price discipline. He announced near-term price increases in the LD network charge (from $2.95 to $4.50), the ExpressVu system access fee ($2.99 to $5.99) and Sympatico high-speed ($44.95 to $46.95, in Ontario only).

  • Wireless president Robert Odendahl promised "selective price increases" for wireless offerings, including eliminating existing all-in-one plans, and shifting the start of night-time rates to 9pm on all mass-market rate plans.
Also, The Star says "Bell will move away from one-year contracts and begin pressuring customers to lock into two- and three-year deals" and that they expect that "some customers to jump ship but will try to make ensure only the undesirable ones go."

So their plan to increase their share price, because hey, public corporations so that's all that matters, is to drive customers away and treat them like crap. Hmm... I typically love my Bell services, and of course I dislike Rogers more, but hey, I'm just a customer. Hopefully I'm not an "undesirable" one.

Since I was prompted to listen to them again, I'd like to once again try to convince everyone that Plumtree is awesome, and you should all rush out and buy their three albums from iTMS and listen to them over and over again, even though they've been disbanded for over five years now.
